The Temporary Business Activities Sponsorship Visa

Can I include my family on my application?

You may bring your family, but they are not able to work or study in Australia unless it’s to undertake a language training program. You must also be able to show that you and your family have the means to support yourselves while in Australia.

Do I need to be in Australia?

You must be offshore when you apply for this visa and while you are waiting for a decision.

To sponsor someone for a Temporary Activity Visa (subclass 408), Temporary (International Relations) Visa (subclass 403) under the PALM scheme, or a Training Visa (subclass 407), an organisation must first become an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor.

Once approved, the sponsorship remains valid for 5 years.

As a Temporary Activities Sponsor, your organisation must comply with all sponsorship obligations. These may include:

  • Cooperating with government inspectors

  • Keeping accurate and up-to-date records

  • Providing records and information upon request

  • Notifying the Department of Home Affairs of relevant changes or events

  • Not passing on sponsorship-related costs to the visa holder

  • Covering costs for removal of unlawful non-citizens, if applicable

  • Ensuring the visa holder carries out the approved job, program, or activity

  • Securing reasonable accommodation for the visa holder

  • Paying reasonable travel costs for the visa holder to return home

These obligations help ensure a fair and transparent sponsorship process for both employers and visa holders.
