The Skilled Independent Visa is designed for highly skilled professionals who are invited to apply and meet the qualifications listed on Australia's Skilled Occupation List. This visa allows individuals to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia—without the need for employer or family sponsorship.

This pathway is also available to eligible New Zealand citizens and certain Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders.

• Points-Tested Stream – For skilled workers who receive an invitation through the SkillSelect system.

• New Zealand Stream – For eligible New Zealand citizens who have been living in Australia and contributing long-term.

Skilled Independent Visa

Permanent Residency Through State or Territory Nomination

The Skilled Nominated Visa offers a direct pathway to permanent residency in Australia for qualified professionals who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. This visa allows you to live, work, and study anywhere within the nominating state or territory on a permanent basis.

To be eligible, your occupation must be listed on the relevant Skilled Occupation List, and you must receive an invitation to apply after submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Australia’s SkillSelect system.

Key Requirements:

• Must have a skilled occupation on the relevant list

• Must be nominated by a state or territory agency

• Must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)

• Must be invited to apply before lodging your application

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

Live and Work in Regional Australia with a Pathway to Permanent Residency

The Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa is for qualified individuals nominated by an Australian state or territory government to live and work in designated regional areas. This visa is valid for up to five years and provides greater flexibility for skilled professionals and their families to build a future in regional Australia.

Visa holders can travel in and out of the country freely while the visa remains active, and may become eligible for permanent residency through the Skilled Regional (Permanent) Visa – Subclass 191.
